Behind the sheep
I make characters because drawing was how I first understood people. Long before I could name a feeling, I could draw it: the slump of someone pretending they're fine, the half-second glance that gives a secret away. Animation just lets those drawings breathe.
I'm finishing my BFA in character animation at the Savannah College of Art and Design, with a concentration in concept illustration, and I keep wandering into collaborative rooms: visual development, storyboards, game art. The wandering turned out to be the point. Working across 2D and 3D taught me that the software matters far less than whether the character on screen wants something you can feel.
During my studio time, I always strive for perfection in gestures and silhouettes. I believe performance and expression can be just as powerful as language and text in telling the stories that pull at people's heartstrings.
After work, my main hobby is, honestly, more animation. There's always a favorite energy drink ready beside my tablet, and my feelings about it are perfectly split: I love the little jolt of invincibility and resent the can for knowing me that well. Wuhei-hei, the sheep all over this site, is the calmer self I'm still sketching toward.
